Recently, multiple Districts of Suriname experienced severe flood, causing economic losses and affecting production and life of many people. China conveys its sympathy to Suriname and has provided Suriname with financial aid of USD 50,000 on June 9th to support Suriname's fight against the flood and post-disaster recovery.

China’s immediate provision of financial aid to Suriname against the flood reflects the high importance China attaches to the friendly relationship between China and Suriname. It is also a concrete manifestation of China’s practical actions to build a closer China-Caribbean Community with a shared future. In the future, China will make full use of the China-Caribbean Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Fund announced by Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in April this year at the Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Among China and the Caribbean Countries Having Diplomatic Relations with China, to further help Suriname and other Caribbean countries to improve their capacity to respond to natural disasters.
